Have you hear about the CPSIA (Consumer Produce Safety Improvement Act) that was passed in August 2008 and goes into effect on February 10, 2009?
It was passed in response to recent lead paint scares involving imported toys. While I am all for protecting our kids from dangerous toys that have been flooding the market, the truth is that this law has such far reaching consequences that it can (will?) ruin many small businesses, second hand clothing and book stores, and effect just about every American family with children under 13 years old.
This bill effects not only children’s toys, but also books, educational materials, clothing, handmade artisans (like those who sell at Etsy), church groups who hold consignment sales, libraries, homeschooling businesses, small and cottage industries, and so on.
